Dealing with Post Election Depression

Like many of you, I find that I have times when I am grounded and clear and other times when waves of grief, disappointment and confusion overtake me like a tsunami. I know that this is part of the process of healing from any trauma and it takes time.

Every crisis humankind confronts teaches us that comfort in the face of life’s challenges is not a luxury but a necessity. These interactions are the universal lifelines that offer us deliverance from fears real and imagined; they resurrect us from the heart of despair and return us to wholeness.

Do not delude yourself into believing that you can substitute “cold comforts” like drinking, smoking, and drugging (legal and illegal), overeating or workaholism for genuine comfort. I have nothing against a glass of wine or a good brownie, but in the long term cold comforts numb us to the sometimes overwhelming conditions that we cannot or choose not to face. Cold comforts devitalize us and ultimately drain us of our energy and resources.

Last night, as part of my healing, my friends and I created an altar of disappointment and unfulfilled dreams. It gave us the container to express, and then let go of, many of the overwhelming feelings that we have been holding onto.

the-tree-of-hope

We also created a tree of hope where we could write down and set intention for a positive future. Thank you Lainie Love Dalby for this amazing idea. You can submit your own wishes, dreams or hopes that you would like to have added to the tree by contacting Lainie via her website. It’s only just begun!

We then went on my roof to be in the presence of nature and this Super Moon.

So as I have been saying since this election:
– Feel your feelings. Give yourself time to grieve and be vulnerable.
– Reach out and connect to people who give you comfort. A good hug can do wonders. Reach out and let   each other know you have each other’s backs.
– Do things that bring you joy: listen to music, paint, read inspirational literature or watch a good film.
– Express Yourself. Groups have been gathering together to do primal screams; the subway on 8th Ave and      14th Street in NYC is filled with post -its with messages of anger, grief and hope and friends have been    meeting to share their frustration, anger and fears.
– Meditate, breathe, dance, and exercise.
– Listen to understand.
– Let nature help you.

Using the 4 elements to help us heal and re-gain stability:

Feeling spacey or light-headed? Connect to the earth to become more grounded. Stand in the ground firmly; lean against a tree with your back against the trunk, hold a special rock or crystal, touch the earth with reverence on stepping out of bed.

Feeling stuck? Release into water.
Use your morning shower to purify you of everything that constricts your energy.

Low energy? Light a fire inside yourself.
Imagine that you have a source of energy deep within you that gives you all the energy you need to create your life…like a giant battery.

Anxiety ruling your life? Breathe in air.
Consciously take long deep breaths throughout the day to calm yourself.

Mother Nature has given us precious gifts…use them wisely.

It is also important to take one action that is aligned with your vision for a better world. We are being called to be stronger, wiser and to take conscious action towards creating a world that embodies our deepest values. 2017 will be a year to show up and be counted!

Enrollment for our Vision 2017 weekend is now open. Join us as we come together to upgrade to our best selves. Click HERE for details.
