As we move closer to the Fall Equinox (Mabon) on Sept 22nd and the beginning of the Jewish New Year on Sept 24th, I have been meditating on not what I want to change, but on how I can be in a state of acceptance for what is and forgive myself and others for any perceived or real transgressions. If you are at all like me, the biggest lesson is learning to be compassionate for my own resistance in areas where I may feel stuck.

Like the goddess Maat in Egyptian mythology, who teaches us that our hearts must be lighter than a feather, we must let go of the heaviness, guilt, shame and regret in order to claim our authenticity and creative talents. Click to Tweet.

The Equinoxes are the only two days out of the whole year when the northern and southern hemispheres receive the same amount of sunlight and the days and nights are the same length. On these days we should take time to balance, to rest and to simply be.

In my own spiritual practice I have seen how imbalance is created when I overextend myself. I then have less energy to create and play and my sabotaging mind jumps in full force to over analyze everything and create confusion.

So, this week I am taking a step backward to move into a state of allowing.

Here is a simple ritual that I like to do at this time of the year:

Part One: Ritual of Forgiveness and Release

  • Light a candle to call in Spirit.
  • Sit quietly and center yourself.
  • Fill a bowl with water.Place a pinch of salt in the water for anyone you want to forgive, especially yourself for any mistakes that you have made consciously or unconsciously by your words, deeds or actions.

Part Two: 4 Direction Meditation
Open to what you may need this season, so journal on the following:

The Power of the North

The Power of the North brings us completion.
Heals the physical body and brings us resources to manifest our purpose.

Power of the West

Deepens our intuition and ability to work with dreams. Gives us time to reflect and quiet the mind.

The Power of the East

The Power of the East enables us to be enlightened with sudden flashes of inspiration. It allows us to be playful and try new things.

The Power of the South

Brings us healthy relationships, love and sensuality
