After the West Village Shootout, I Chose Peace

As I was getting ready for my women’s new moon in Leo circle, I heard the sounds of helicopters outside my window. I looked down from my 10th floor apartment and saw at least 20 police cars, camera crews and people walking around looking confused. I went down to my lobby to see what was going on and discovered that a NYPD detective and two Federal Marshals had been shot and wounded while trying to arrest a fugitive from California. The fugitive had opened fire on the men who then returned the fire and killed him.

So, how do we stay calm and focused in the midst of chaos? For me the challenge is—how do you raise your vibration and anchor it so that you’re no longer a victim of the madness that swirls all around you? How can you lift yourself above the frequent messiness of modern life and operate from a new perspective? How can you actually see the chaos and refuse to be the chaos?

I immediately went upstairs, sprayed my Space Clearing spray to clear my energy and did a grounding meditation. I knew I had to be as clear and focused as possible so I would not hold onto the craziness outside. I could feel the tension in the neighborhood as our street became a crime scene. I felt like I was an extra on Law and Order.

I felt blessed to be leading a group that evening. When we are disconnected or unplugged from our core selves, our energy is reactive and constantly bouncing off the wall of other people’s egos, unconscious behaviors, projections and fears. Our energy is unpredictable, erratic and subject to shuttling back and forth between extremes. By contrast, when we are connected, hooked up and operating directly from our core, we are far less vulnerable to the chaos, i.e. the unpredictable actions of others and the volatility of the environments in which you live and work.

When we do group meditation, we raise our vibration above the chaos and build up a strong container of energy to help individuals in the group as  well as the planet. I already planned on doing some healing for Israel/Palestine/Russia, but it seemed that the healing was needed closer to home. We ended our evening by doing prayers for peace and healing.

Each one of us has the opportunity every moment to add to the chaos or add to the peace of the planet. Let us choose peace.
