The 4th of July in the United States holds the energy of independence. We tend to forget this in our quest for the perfect beach party, summer drink or firework display. Yet, it is a powerful time to take a look at what holds you in bondage? Where are you not free?
There is a saying that whoever angers you controls you. What and who control you?
This is what keeps me from being free:

My reactivity to people who disrespect others, are racist or narcissist
-
Wanting to make everyone happy at my own expense
-
Clutter
-
Taking on too much
-
Saying “yes” too quickly and then later regretting it
-
Not doing the spiritual practices that I know ground and support me
-
Working too much and not leaving enough time for fun
In ancient Egypt the goddess Maat taught that the key to life is living with your heart as light as a feather. She encourages us to let go of resentment, guilt and any relationships that do not treat us fairly. In this way we can become more joyful and able to treat others with fairness and compassion. We gain the tools to think clearly and take action that is aligned with our values, unique gifts and talents.
